Anna Politkovskaya posthumously receives a UNESCO award |

 Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, who was killed in the entrance to her house in October of last year, was posthumously honored with the Freedom of the Press award from UNESCO, the organization stated on its web site.
At UNESCO they explained that her selection was because she had demonstrated unbelievable courage and perseverance in bringing to light the events in Chechnya after the rest of the world had long ceased to pay attention.
. "Her loyalty to the profession and bravery in the search for the truth is an example not just for journalists in Russia, but for the entire world," said UNESCO in its press release.
The UNESCO Freedom of the Press award has been given out since 1997, but never before posthumously. The award, which notes the contribution of journalists to the development of freedom of speech, is worth $25 thousand. This year's ceremony will take place in Columbia.
