Age - 21; Russia, Moscow.
Irina was born in Moscow on June 28th, 1981. She graduated from high school with honors in 1998, and a year later entered the Second Medical Institute (RGMU). When ‘Nord-Ost’ happened, she was in her fourth year of medical school. She would have been an outstanding physician; it was as if God had chosen her for the profession. When we would call her ‘our doctor’, she would say: “I’m still not a doctor, I’m just a doctorette.” With her around, things were always easy, and during our family’s hard times she was like a rock, supporting me, in spite of her 16 years. When they broadcast the terrible news on television, I could not even think that anything bad could happen to her. She was there with friends, and her dearest one, a man she was preparing to join with for the rest of their lives. He protected her as best he could, but later blamed himself for not being able to save her. Three days of searching ended at the morgue. I do not remember very well what happened after that. I only remember that there were a lot of people at her funeral. There were her fellow medical students, and even classmates from high school, and here I saw how many people were not indifferent to Ira. Everyone loved her and trusted her with their secrets and worries, and she could always find the right word for them. There is a theory that people, once they leave this world, move to a parallel one where all those desires that they never were able to fulfill here on earth are at last granted. I would like to believe this. I hope that she is happy in that other word, and has finished all that she could not manage to finish here. Kind and bright - such was her soul.
