This statement was made at the beginning of a meeting of security service expert from nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, a meeting organized by the Anti-terrorism Center of the CIS.

The situation in the CIS countries and on their external borders remains unstable, according to a report from the correspondent from Tengrinews.kz.

One of the main causes of tension cited was the emergence of new terrorist and extremist organizations.

At the meeting, they noted that there is still no confirmation about the activation of certain terrorist groups in Afghanistan, but recent attacks in Central Asia, experts say, are of particular concern to the security services.

“We know that there is now an aggravation of the situation in neighboring Kazakhstan, and that the threat of terrorism remains high in Tajikistan. All of this suggests that the threat of terrorism in Central Asia is very high,” said Kolbay Musayev, deputy chairman of the National Security Committee of the Kazakhstan Republic.

The main purpose of today's meeting in Bishkek was not only a discussion on the current situation, but also the development of new operating principles and strategies to combat terrorism.

The first step will be the creation and use a specialized online data bank at the CIS Anti-terrorist Center. In addition, the ATC is planning for joint theoretical and practical exercises for Commonwealth security and military forces in 2012.
