Some gunned down the conscience of Russian journalism. Others danced on her grave

First thing, in the investigation of a murder, the police and other security services will check the surveillance camera recordings, confiscate the tapes, and seal and secure them in a safe. Right?

Second, the murder of a Russian public figure with international standing, which is what Anna Politkovskaya was, is certainly an act of terrorism, right?
Third, let us recall those laws that the Federal Parliament passed after ‘Nord-Ost’ and Beslan, laws that restrict journalistic access to the scene of terrorist attacks, in order to prevent leaks from playing into terrorist hands.

So then explain to me: how did CCTV camera recordings, exactly one day after Anna Politkovskaya’s murder, appear in an NTV television broadcast?

In this case, the anchorman said that the murderer knew about the camera and turned to the back of his head towards it. There was another video camera, the anchorman informed us, and it captured the murderer’s face. Here he is!

What is this supposed to be? It is a direct call to those who ordered the murder: your killer has been identified — take measures to eliminate him.

Who ‘copied’ this video while it was in the safe of our vigilant law enforcement agencies? How did it get on the air?

The murder of ‘Novaya Gazeta’ reporter Anna Politkovskaya shocked many in Russia, and led to the most divergent of opinions. Independent MP Vladimir Ryzhkov spoke sharply and bluntly: “The motives are quite obvious to me. Anna Politkovskaya worked mainly on Chechnya, ‘Nord-Ost’, and Beslan, the most troublesome topics for the country’s leadership, the FSB, and the army. Any of these agencies could have act ordered the crime. I do not believe that the crime will be solved, because those who are supposed to conduct the investigation are the same people who were most interested in her death.”

Alexander Khinshtein, MP from ‘United Russia’ and also a journalist and ‘special correspondent for the security agencies’, began at once to assure us that the killing of Politkovskaya was very disadvantageous to the authorities and to Putin.

Former dissident, and now chief Kremlin spin-doctor, Gleb Pavlovsky argued that the murder of Politkovskaya primarily benefits the opposition: “Well, she was killed. Immediately there were several versions… Anna’s value was in how much she teased the Kremlin and Ramzan Kadyrov with her hostility. In this she fulfilled the role of ritual target… Whoever ordered her murder was interested in her as a ‘nominal enemy’, a participant in his start-up scenario… We’ve seen how the opposition has been looking for this start-up scenario for months, rushing things into the news, is this it? Is it Beslan? Is it the Ukraine? Is it oil? Is it the ‘G-8’? They literally begged for the Event to arrive…”

What can you say? There is an old saying: “And the land bears it.”

Let us remember Anna Politkovskaya. She was not involved in politics, and especially not in political strategies. She defended the people.
