Relative to one’s own health
MASHA MEYERS: Good evening, my name is Masha Meyers. I’d like to tell you now what you’ll be hearing this hour on the air on radio station ‘Echo of Moscow’. Today is Tuesday. From 11 to 12, I remind you once again, we’re putting on the air a program called ‘A cunning number’. Our guest today is Elena Malysheva, a doctoral candidate in medical science who hosts the program ‘Health’. Good evening, Elena. E. MALYSHEVA: Dear friends, I’d like to calm you down. In reality, stress promotes the manufacture of a huge quantity of protective substances. That stress, which a person goes through, makes them many times stronger. When there is no release from stress, it is difficult, but when there is release, then it is to the organism’s benefit. This is well-known research, and this whole system is called ‘adaptation to stress’. Moreover, at that moment the organism produces many interesting substances that are even similar to medicines. For example, we have a so-called stress-limiting system, a system that restricts stress. Let’s say that gamma-aminobutyric acid is produced. Now here is a drug that has gamma-aminobutyric acid. It allows a person survive severe stress. |
