On August 24th, 2004, two airliners left Moscow's Domodedovo airport. A Tu-154 assumed a course towards Sochi, while a Tu-134 headed towards Volgograd, but neither would ever arrive at their destination. Almost simultaneously, terrorists blew up both ‘iron birds’: the Tu-154 while flying over the Rostov region, and the Tu-134 over the Tula region. All 88 passengers on board both aircraft were killed. That terrible day will forever remain in the memory of many residents of Volgograd, since on one of the ill-fated aircraft were children, parents, and friends of the residents of that heroic city of WW II fame. Meanwhile, the loved ones of these terrorism victims are still unable achieve punishment of the indirect culprits of this 'heavenly catastrophe'. Comments (1) | Views: 4695 | E-mail |

The catastrophe of the riverboat 'Bulgaria', which sank on the Volga in broad daylight, reflects the horrors of Russia's technology and morality In early 2001, Russian authorities were warning of a coming era of man-made disasters. Vladimir Putin set up the so-called 'Challenge 2003' presidential commission to study the series of man-made disasters that were threatening Russia because of the deterioration of technology in virtually every industry in the nation. Apparently he believed that it served its purpose, as did his successor, yet the commission's most pessimistic predictions, though somewhat delayed, were more than justified.
