Pushed around on Triumph Square, members of the European Parliament prepare their report

Image
The experience MEPs received on Triumph Square during a demonstration in support of constitutional Article 31 will provide the basis for an adjustment in EU policy towards Russia. As explained in GZT.RU, the EU delegation that visited the demonstration received many impressions, and is currently discussing what form their report to the EU Parliament, on what they witnessed, will take.

On September 1st, Thiys Berman, representative of the European Parliament's human rights subcommittee, shared with GZT.RU his impressions of the Triumph Square demonstration in Moscow, which had been organized by the opposition the day before. A member of the Dutch Socialist Party, who together with his colleagues was in the center of the events, told about the force brought to bear by the Russian police.

ImageOn September 1, 2004, terrorists seized a school in Beslan. On the third day the hostages were freed. 336 people, most of them children, were killed. Six years later, Beslan preserves the destroyed school, is raising funds for the treatment of victims, and doe not expect any help from Russian authorities.

«Among the hostages in the school Muslims were also killed»

Beslan, high noon, School lane takes us to the ruins of School No. 1. Over the course of these years the destruction has become even more pronounced. The gymnasium, where they kept the hostages and where many were killed, they taped up photographs, children's drawings, and poetry. The wooden floor has a large black hole where the bomb that was hanging overhead exploded on September 3rd. Black charred beams under the roof are a reminder of the terrible fire. A broken dormer window and a bent basketball hoop are confirmation of one of the versions of the stories the hostages tell about the explosions being triggered by a shot from a neighboring apartment building, in which were located special troops. The huge windows, through which jumped children, tormented by thirst, and ran not for cover, but to a water fountain on Sept. 3rd, 2004.  There they fell, slain in the crossfire.

Beslan. Six years later

Родные и близкие тех, кто погиб в школе №1, уверены: за шесть лет правды о Беслане больше не стало

Родные и близкие тех, кто погиб в школе № 1, уверены: за шесть лет правды о Беслане больше не стало

Six years ago, on September 1st, 2004, terrorists seized Secondary School No. 1 in the city of Beslan, taking 1,127 hostages. Two days later the school was stormed (by the authorities). In the end, during those three days, 330 were killed in the school, and three later died in the hospital. More than half the dead were children. Why, even though it has been six years since the tragedy, is the investigation into the terrorist attack still not over?

According to hostages and relatives of victims of the tragic events occurring six years ago in Beslan, the investigation is biased and purposely prolonged. All the facts are there to prove involvement in the crime, or innocence, it only needs to be acknowledged. Anna Gadiyeva, co-chair of the Beslan Mothers committee, explains:

“Six years, we said the same thing, but it’s all just the same. The investigative bodies did not consider all the facts that were identified at the trial of Kulayev, the sole surviving terrorist, and the eyewitness testimony. Our appeals have mostly been rejected. Instead, we are told that another investigation has been scheduled. One just needs to identify that the operational headquarters for rescuing the hostages did not fulfill its function, the operational headquarters allowed the spontaneous assault to occur.”
