According to juror Yevgeny Kolesov, jurors in the murder case of Novaya Gazeta reporter Anna Politkovskaya wrote a statement to the judge, saying that they were not against the presence of the print media at the hearings. «Today we wrote a general statement to the judge that on the day before yesterday and today we didn't make any statements (to the effect that the jury was against the presence of the press). We asked for the removal of video and TV cameras, but we aren't opposed to the participation of the written press in this trial,» Kolesov said on radio Echo of Moscow on Thursday.

Lawyers for the family of Anna Politkovskaya are seeking the interrogation of Ramzan Kadyrov as a witness in the murder case. Karina Moskalenko, who represents the family of the 'Novaya Gazeta' journalist, today in Moscow district military court noted that the name of the Chechen president has been repeatedly heard in the case file and witness testimony. «His questioning is important,» said the lawyer, adding that investigators never bothered to interrogate him. Anna Politkovskaya was gunned down on October 7th, 2006, in the entrance of the building where she lived on Lesnaya Ulitsa. Immediately after the crime, the president of Chechnya urged journalists not to look for 'a Chechen connection'. Shortly thereafter, however, Chechen natives Rustam and Ibrahim Makhmudov, and Magomed Demelkhanov, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the crime. Also arrested in the case were the former head of the Achkhoi-Martan district in Chechnya, Shamil Burayev, and his friend, FSB Lieutenant Colonel Pavel Ryaguzov, according to ITAR-TASS. The charges against Burayev were later dropped, and the Demelkhanov brothers were released. Dmitry Grachev, who had been held in the case, was also released from custody.

Honored Vladimir Vladimirovich, September 16th, 2008, was the 9th anniversary of the largest terrorist attack in Russia, in the town of Volgodonsk, the Rostov region. Officially more than 15,000 were injured, 1000 of them children, while the aftermath of that terrible tragedy still affects our children and us. On July 11th, 2002, the Council of Europe Committee approved 'Guidelines on human rights and the fight against terrorism', in which Article XVII 'Compensation for victims of terrorist acts' states: «If damages cannot fully be recovered from other sources, particularly through the confiscation of property belonging to the perpetrators, organizers and sponsors of terrorist acts (such as in our case), with respect to such acts committed on its territory, the State must contribute to the compensation of victims for their losses and injuries.»
