Dmitry Medvedev met with relatives of victims of the Beslan tragedy. Will the investigation into the terrorist attack now by reopened? The Russian president promised relatives of victims of the Beslan terrorist attack that he will once again examine the investigation file, punish those who have not yet been brought to justice for the tragedy, and provide additional assistance to victims. These are the results of a meeting between Dmitry Medvedev and representatives of the 'Mothers of Beslan' non-governmental organization (NGO). Members of 'Voice of Beslan', another NGO that unites bereaved families, were surprised that they were not invited to the meeting with the president. The meeting between the 'Mothers of Beslan' and Medvedev was scheduled for May 5th, but was canceled due to urgent matters on the President's part. Time for the meeting could only be found for the evening of June 1st, on the eve of the President's departure for Italy. What did the victims' relatives ask the head of state? Memorial rallies held in Beslan and Moscow for victims of the Beslan tragedy On June 1st, International Children Day, the 'Mothers of Beslan' association of victims of terrorist attacks held a rally in the courtyard of Beslan School #1, which was the victim of a terrorist attack in September of 2004. The rally was titled «Protect the children». At the rally in Beslan gathered victims, teachers, and students from other schools in Beslan, as well as people who were taken hostage during the siege. In total, the rally was attended by about 100 people. In their hands they held banners reading «Parents lose their children, the state — its future citizens.» The rally was a critique of the government and the investigation into the events. Zoya Dzutseva, in particular, stated: «For the seventh year neither the 'Mothers of Beslan' committee, nor 'Voice of Beslan' has been able to reach the offices of government officials in order to learn the truth as to why our children died, and who made it possible for the bandits to get into Beslan.» Be first to comment this article | Views: 4539 | E-mail |

In the US there was a premiere of ‘I Admit Guilt’ by Natalia Pelevina. The play is dedicated to the hostage seizure that took place at Moscow’s Dubrovka Square in 2002. Attending the premiere were even some of the relatives of those killed during the terrorist attack. The whole show revolves around a dialogue between two women — a hostage and a suicide bomber. “This is a play about a woman’s view of the terrible events, and about how, in spite of civilization’s barriers, we really have so much in common,” the director told RIA Novosti. Natalia Pelevina admits that one of the main characters she created — the journalist Natasha, who by chance found herself among the hostages — was heavily influenced by the personality of Anna Politkovskaya, a well-known journalist who wrote political exposés and in her activities was very interested in the Chechen problem. According to investigators, leaders of the Chechen criminal underworld ordered her murder. The heroine on the play also tries to understand the worldview of the female terrorist who is preparing herself for death. Be first to comment this article | Views: 6415 | E-mail |
