В Москве предотвращена серия терактовOfficers from the Department of Combating Extremism detained an underage Moscow resident who was preparing a series of terror acts for the capital. It was determined that the young man belongs to a neo-nazi group and has a direct connection with a series of loud explosions in the city. The neo-nazi was detained in route to the Monument of the Soldiers of the Great Patriotic War, where he was planning to set off his homemade bombs.

On Tuesday officers from the Interior Ministry's Department of Combating Extremism reported the detention of a neo-nazi who was preparing a series of terror acts in the capital.

«The underage Muscovite, who is an active participant in a neo-nazi group, was detained a few hours before his powerful, homemade explosive devices were set to go off in one of the parks in the capital by the Monument of the Soldiers of the Great Patriotic War, as well as in places where large numbers of Muscovites gather,» it was reported to RIA ‘Novosti' (‘The News').

The department further explained that the suspect was rendered harmless while already in route to the scene of the crime. It was determined that the detainee was a participant in a number of explosions around Moscow, in which many persons had been injured. Now the punishment of the underage criminal is being decided.

Moscow has repeatedly been shaken by terror acts organized by nationalistic groups.

On December 1st, 2008, there was a blast in the Church of Nikolai the Miracle Worker, in the Biryulevo-West region of Moscow. A homemade bomb with the power equivalent to 50 grams of TNT was located in a cloth bag left at the cathedral by two adolescents.

Experts later determined that explosive device did not contain shrapnel. As a result, only two persons were hospitalized: a 62-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man.

At the end of January 2009, special operatives together with regional FSB officers prevented another terror act in a mosque at Poklonnaya Gorya and detained members of an extremist sect.

During the operation, the detainees confessed to setting off another explosion in a MacDonald's restaurant in the Kuzminki region of the capital on January 16th, 2009. They also admitted to undermining a railway spur near Tsaritsino Station on October 5th, 2008, undermining the main railway line at the Paveletskaya branch near Bulatnikovo Station on November 4th, 2008, and setting off an explosion in the Church of Nikolai Mirlikiysky.
